Busy time at work.

So this week is a very busy time for us at the AFD.  We are currently staffing two airfields as well at the town.  We currently have the FAA Challenger (Learjet) down here working, as well as the first LC-130 is here.  So, what does that mean to us?  The Challenger is a wheeled aircraft that is on station to certify each of the airfields.  They test the MLS (Mircowave landing system) at each of the three airfields.  While down here the Challenger flies for many hours doing low approaches at each airfield, and then they land and are parked at Pegasus Airfield.

The LC-130 being on station means that Willy Field is open, and we have to staff that airfield 24/7 for the remainder of the season.  So we have 8 firefighters at Pegasus during flying hours (9am-10pm) as well as 8 firefighters at Willy 24/7.  And on top of that 4 firefighters in town.  So with all of that going on Paula worked her 24 hours shift at Willy Field yesterday.  And then upon arrival back in town she loaded back up and headed out to Pegasus for the day on her day off.  Even better is the fact that I am riding in the Officers seat on the Engine in town.  So I have traded in my desk and inspection papers for a fire engine.  Which is good for a change of pace.  And it means that I am actually taking a lunch break and writing here in the blog.

No photos today, but I have some from last weeks Pressure Ridge tour that I will post soon.
