Febuary, March, April, May???

Ok, so it has been a while since I have expelled the contents of my brain into cyberspace. I have had allot of people asking if the blog would continue and the answer is Yes. So please check back from time to time and please if you would please let other people that might have been viewing know that I have "expelled" again and I will continue.

Let me wrap up the last four months for you:

February: How to get out of Antarctica.

March: Touring New Zealand; how not to get out of NZ.

April: Surgery, how to get out of bed.

May: A new home???

Well you are all caught up thanks for stopping by.

A bit of a change between the photos huh???

Overall the weather in McMurdo this season was much worse than normal. We had a heavy wet snowstorm in the middle of January which is unheard of. So Feb. was no different. Ship offload was cold and windy. The Fire Department laid a 2500' supply line to the American Tern ship to resupply it with fresh drinking water. Of course the temperature was about 0F so when it was shut down we had about 15 minutes to drain all 2500' before it froze solid. All went well. Then there was trying to get out of Antarctica. We had storms starting on the 18th of Feb. and Paula was scheduled to leave on the 19th and I was on deck for the 21st. Well Paula made it off the Ice on the 21st and I got pushed back until the 24th. So we had allot of free time to sit a visit before we left the Ice.

Next was New Zealand. We planned to travel the southern portion of the South Island and explore some of the wilderness of NZ. Well as I alluded to earlier I was diagnosed with a hernia while on the Ice. So from Jan. 15th on I was on light duty and couldn't do much physical work. So the idea of backpacking through NZ was good, but it wasn't going to happen. So we toured the island by car and we saw many nice towns and interesting areas.

Next was back to the US and we took up residence in West Falls with Paula's mom. We spent allot of time with the fire department and visiting with friends and family. Also I went under the knife at the beginning of April and I was recuperating for most of the month.

Then in May we finally found an RV that we were interested in and we bought it on ebay in Pennsylvania. So the last few weeks we have been spent checking out and fixing up our new ride.
So in the morning we will be leaving on our adventure across country for 2008. I will be writing often and trying to keep everyone informed of our trip from our new home on wheels.

Stay tuned.
R.J.
